Mark your calendar for Sunday, March 29 at 4:00 p.m. for our annual Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Benefit Performance. The City of Palo Alto generously co-sponsors our annual event with the donation of the Cubberley Theatre on a date when the theatre is not rented in advance. 100% of the proceeds for this performance go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, San Francisco Bay Area Chapter. Dance Connection funds the staffing, rehearsals, dance faculty, and theatrical technical support. Thanks to all who attend and support the Komen Foundation through our benefit!

Workshops/Master Classes
We are thrilled to once again offer a high quality dance convention at our studio, Tam Jams on Sat-Sun, April 18-19. Professional choreographers and master teachers travel from around the country to offer intimate classes for our serious students right here at our studio. Pre registration is required, and space is limited for these classes. Tami will once again organize this event and will have registration information available this winter.

The Nutcracker PJ Party

The Nutcracker PJ Party for all 4-6 year old children (and their parents) to learn the story of the Nutcracker Ballet is Friday, December 5th , 2008 at 7:00 in our L5 studio. This past year’s PJ Party was too darling for words. Imagine a studio full of pajama wearing young children with their parents sitting on the studio floor to hear the story of the Nutcracker Ballet amidst some of the ballet characters. The children have the opportunity to meet the dancers which include: Clara, the Nutcracker Prince, the Snow Queen, the Dew Drop Faity, the Sugar Plum Fairy, and the Cavalier. Everyone learns a bit about pointe shoes and sees them in action. Definitely a “don’t miss” for all the young Nutcracker attendees for our performances.

2008 Performances: “Let’s Dance!”

Our spring concert for all Pre School dancers will be held on Saturday, June 6th at the Cubberley Theatre at 1:00, 3:00, or 5:00 p.m. All children’s classes, combination classes, tap, hip hop, jazz, and lyrical classes will be held on June 5-7 at Foothill College Smithwick Theatre, and these performances will not be costumed. 2009 is the year we will use dancewear for our “Let’s Dance!” performances. Remember, we only have costumes every other year. The spring of 2009 will be another year of a full ballet production for our ballet recital, Sleeping Beauty which will be held on Saturday, May 30 at the Spangenberg Theatre.

Performing Company 2008/09

Under the direction of Tami Burton, our Performing Company continues a successful season of dance, performing, and competing. We have five teams, divided by age and level: Connectors, Mini Team, Junior Team,Teen Team, and Senior Team. The teams are involved in many exciting events, extra performances, conventions, and competitions. The new Connector team will begin their rehearsals in January. In 2008, our Performing Company had a record number of winning dancers, with several scholarship and award winners. Our spring Breast Cancer Benefit is one of the many wonderful things our Company is involved with.

Spring Ballet Concert:
The Sleeping Beauty Ballet

Our spring ballet concert, “Sleeping Beauty” will be held on Saturday, May 30 at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. at the Spangenberg Theatre in Palo Alto. All ballet students from Primary Ballet through advanced levels will be performing in this fully costumed production. The choreography will be taught in regular classes, and we have one weekend of rehearsals prior to the performance. Bringing a full classical ballet to our dancers is not only a fun experience, but a valuable learning tool in the art of ballet. Being a part of a full scale ballet in three acts with other dancers from ages five to 18 will be magical for every dancer. You will not want to miss this beautiful and classic ballet story.
